A small knife with a short, rounded blade and a boxwood handle, made for spreading sobrassada, the soft, spiced sausage from Mallorca. It works just as well for butter, tapenade or soft cheese. The rounded blade spreads evenly without cutting into the bread, and is easy to clean afterwards.
The knife comes from Pallarès Solsona, a Catalan family business that has been making simple, solid knives since 1917, still largely by hand. The boxwood is smooth and light in colour and develops a warm patina over the years.
Put it next to the butter at breakfast, on a tapas board or with bread and pâté. Wash the knife by hand and dry it immediately. A nice small gift with a jar of tapenade or a piece of cheese.
